Staff Accountant

Finance·Remote·Full-time·Mid·$65,000 – $90,000

Own the accounting close for a slate of active construction projects — WIP, AP/AR, reconciliations — in a firm where the numbers actually have to be right.

The role

Construction accounting is its own discipline: percentage-of-completion revenue, WIP schedules, retainage, certified payroll, lien waivers, and pay applications that have to balance to the penny before the next draw gets released.

KenHome is hiring two Staff Accountants to own this work for our active project portfolio. You will partner directly with the Project Managers, the CFA, and our outside CPA firm. The Controller reports to the CFA; you will report to the Controller.

We are looking for practitioners who are genuinely interested in the construction domain — this is not a generic accounting role.

What you'll do

  • Own the monthly project-level close for assigned projects: revenue recognition (POC), WIP schedule, cost-to-complete, over/under billings.
  • Process weekly AP runs including subcontractor pay applications, conditional and unconditional lien waivers, and certified payroll verification.
  • Maintain AR aging; coordinate with PMs on owner invoicing and collections.
  • Perform month-end account reconciliations (cash, intercompany, job costs, retainage payable/receivable).
  • Support the year-end audit with the outside CPA firm — prepare schedules and defend balances.
  • Assist with sales and use tax filings, 1099 preparation, and unclaimed-property reporting.
  • Partner with Procurement to reconcile subcontract buyout vs. committed cost.

What we're looking for

  • 3+ years of accounting experience, at least 1 year in construction, real estate, or project-based accounting.
  • Working knowledge of percentage-of-completion revenue recognition and WIP schedules.
  • Proficiency in a construction ERP (Sage 300 CRE / Timberline, Viewpoint Vista, Foundation, or Procore Financials).
  • Advanced Excel — pivot tables, SUMIFS / INDEX-MATCH, power query a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Detail-oriented to the point of being a little inconvenient about it. That is intended as a compliment.

Nice to have

  • Active CPA license or parts passed.
  • Experience with federal Davis-Bacon certified payroll.
  • SQL competence for ad-hoc reporting.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage (employee premium 100% covered; dependents heavily subsidized)
  • 401(k) with 4% company match, vested immediately
  • 20 days PTO + 11 paid holidays; separate sick bank
  • 12 weeks paid parental leave
  • $3,000 annual continuing-education and certification stipend
  • Life, AD&D, and short/long-term disability
  • Relocation support for role-critical hires
