Build the HR function at KenHome — recruiting, onboarding, compliance, compensation, and the day-to-day people work — for a growing construction business.
The role
KenHome is the size where the absence of a dedicated HR function starts to show. We are hiring an HR Manager who can professionalize recruiting, onboarding, compensation, and compliance — while staying close enough to the business to be useful in the field, not just in the office.
This is a broad, senior-individual-contributor role today, with a clear path to HR Director as the team grows.
What you'll do
- Run full-cycle recruiting for non-executive roles in partnership with hiring managers; own our careers portal and candidate experience.
- Build and maintain the employee handbook, onboarding program, and 30/60/90 review cadence.
- Administer compensation, benefits, and PTO; partner with brokers at renewal.
- Own HRIS data hygiene; produce the monthly people metrics pack for the executive team.
- Lead EEOC, OFCCP (if/when applicable), ACA, and state-specific compliance — including I-9, E-Verify, and certified payroll HR components for federal work.
- Investigate and document employee relations issues; partner with outside counsel where appropriate.
- Drive DEI-in-hiring practices that are defensible on both merit and federal program grounds.
- Lead performance management; coach managers through difficult conversations.
- Partner with the COO on organizational design as new roles are added.
What we're looking for
- 7+ years of HR experience, with at least 3 years as an HR Generalist Lead or HR Manager.
- Construction, engineering, manufacturing, or other blue-collar-plus-white-collar industry background strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of federal labor law (FLSA, FMLA, ADA, Title VII), Texas employment law, and construction-specific compliance (Davis-Bacon, certified payroll coordination, OSHA recordkeeping partnership).
- Proficiency with at least one modern HRIS (Rippling, Gusto, BambooHR, Paylocity, ADP Workforce Now).
- Bachelor's degree; SHRM-CP / SHRM-SCP or PHR / SPHR strongly preferred.
- Discretion — this role sees everything.
Nice to have
- Experience scaling HR from ~50 employees to ~200+.
- Prior HR work with federal primes (DBE / HUB / SDVOSB compliance experience).
- Bilingual English / Spanish.
Benefits
- Medical, dental, and vision coverage (employee premium 100% covered; dependents heavily subsidized)
- 401(k) with 4% company match, vested immediately
- 20 days PTO + 11 paid holidays; separate sick bank
- 12 weeks paid parental leave
- $3,000 annual continuing-education and certification stipend
- Life, AD&D, and short/long-term disability
- Relocation support for role-critical hires
