Civil Engineer

Engineering·Dallas, TX·Full-time·Mid·$85,000 – $135,000

Review civil design, stamp KenHome's constructability input, and own the technical integrity of site/civil scope across our institutional portfolio.

The role

Our projects sit on real sites with real geotechnical, drainage, and utility constraints. The quality of KenHome's civil input during preconstruction is often what separates a profitable project from a painful one.

As a Civil Engineer on our staff, you will partner with the Project Managers and the Architect/Engineer of Record on every project from the GMP phase forward. You are our technical voice on grading, utilities, drainage, paving, site structures, and coordination with the structural EOR. You will not be a plan stamper for external consultants — you will be a constructability advocate with a PE.

What you'll do

  • Perform constructability review of civil drawings and specifications during preconstruction.
  • Flag conflicts between civil, structural, MEP, and site-logistics drawings before buyout.
  • Review submittals for site/civil scope (earthwork, underground utilities, paving, hardscape, drainage structures).
  • Coordinate with geotechnical engineers on pad preparation, subgrade acceptance, and material substitutions.
  • Partner with surveyors on layout verification and as-built accuracy.
  • Represent KenHome in technical discussions with the Engineer of Record and AHJ plan reviewers.
  • Support the PM on RFIs that carry technical risk.
  • Develop internal standards and checklists for recurring civil scope patterns.

What we're looking for

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) — Civil discipline — in Texas, or able to obtain Texas licensure within 6 months via reciprocity.
  • 5+ years of civil engineering experience; construction-side or combined design/build background strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bluebeam, and one of Revit or Navisworks.
  • Working knowledge of TxDOT, local municipal, and institutional owner standards.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (ABET-accredited). Master's is welcome.
  • Comfortable on active jobsites in any weather.

Nice to have

  • LEED AP.
  • Experience with federal (USACE / NAVFAC / VA) civil standards.
  • Experience leading stormwater design reviews (TPDES permits, SWPPP).

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage (employee premium 100% covered; dependents heavily subsidized)
  • 401(k) with 4% company match, vested immediately
  • 20 days PTO + 11 paid holidays; separate sick bank
  • 12 weeks paid parental leave
  • $3,000 annual continuing-education and certification stipend
  • Life, AD&D, and short/long-term disability
  • Relocation support for role-critical hires
