Architect

Design Management·Dallas, TX·Full-time·Senior·$90,000 – $140,000

Be KenHome's architectural voice across institutional pursuits — owner conversations, design review, and constructability coordination with the Architect of Record.

The role

KenHome self-performs construction management and rarely acts as Architect of Record, but the quality of our architectural understanding is a competitive advantage on institutional, municipal, and federal work. Owners want a contractor who can have a real conversation about design intent, not just bid documents.

This role is part design ambassador, part constructability referee. You will sit with owners during preconstruction, partner with the AOR on the design, and stand behind the documentation in the field when it is being built.

What you'll do

  • Partner with owners during GMP development — translate program into cost and schedule implications.
  • Review architectural drawings for constructability, coordination, and compliance with owner program.
  • Run design-assist sessions with trade partners (glazing, cladding, interiors, life-safety).
  • Oversee finish mock-ups, benchmark approvals, and owner design-acceptance sequences.
  • Coordinate with AOR on design change management; maintain a clean paper trail.
  • Represent design intent in OAC meetings and owner walkthroughs.
  • Lead the punchlist architectural review at substantial completion.
  • Mentor Project Coordinators and PMs on design fundamentals.

What we're looking for

  • Licensed Architect (AIA or NCARB-certified and licensed) in Texas, or actively pursuing Texas licensure via reciprocity.
  • 8+ years of architectural experience, with institutional, higher-ed, healthcare, civic, or federal portfolio.
  • Fluent in Revit, Bluebeam, and the AIA document family (B-series, A-series).
  • Working knowledge of IBC, ADA / ANSI A117.1, NFPA 101, and relevant Texas amendments.
  • Strong written and verbal communicator — you can write a design narrative and defend it.
  • Bachelor's of Architecture (5-year) or M.Arch.

Nice to have

  • LEED AP BD+C or WELL AP.
  • Historic preservation / Secretary of the Interior Standards experience.
  • Prior GC-side experience — you have seen your drawings get built.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage (employee premium 100% covered; dependents heavily subsidized)
  • 401(k) with 4% company match, vested immediately
  • 20 days PTO + 11 paid holidays; separate sick bank
  • 12 weeks paid parental leave
  • $3,000 annual continuing-education and certification stipend
  • Life, AD&D, and short/long-term disability
  • Relocation support for role-critical hires
